Over the last few years there has been significant growth in the use of smartphones and tablets as a method of accessing the internet. Commonly known as the mobile web, this increasingly popular way of surfing websites on hand-held devices – which accounts for almost 20% of global internet traffic as of September 2013 – poses various challenges. In particular, smaller screen sizes mean that websites which were traditionally designed for desktop computers or laptops cannot always be viewed properly on mobiles.
